The Dolphins have reportedly traded guard Justin Smiley to the Jaguars. ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported the trade on Monday. The trade is pending Smiley passing a physical, sources said, and it is not yet known what Miami will receive in return.

A Broncos team official says that the team never shopped quarterback Kyle Orton. There were reports earlier this offseason that Denver put Orton on the block. "Broncos official texted on report Denver had shopped QB Kyle Orton: 'Kyle Orton Has NEVER been available or discussed. Ever! Period,' " ESPN Insider Adam Schefter wrote on his Twitter page.

The Redskins would still prefer to trade Albert Haynesworth before the start of the season, sources told the Washington Post. Haynesworth has already been paid $32 million by the Redskins, including $21 million on April 1. He continues to skip voluntary team activities as he is upset that the team is switching to a 3-4 defensive scheme.

Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton has been cool under the heat of controversy, a stance that may have saved him from a trade. Denver acquired Brady Quinn in a trade with Cleveland and then drafted Tim Tebow in the first round of last month's NFL Draft. The Denver Post writes that Orton has a strong presence over the team's offense, which may be the reason why Josh McDaniels and Company will hold onto the veteran.

Chargers general manager A.J. Smith has confirmed to the San Diego Union-Tribune that he met with Shawne Merriman's new representative, David Dunn, on Thursday. "We had a meeting with David that was very productive and enlightening on a number of fronts," Smith said. "Regarding Shawne, I told him we are open-minded regarding his situation. We have many other player situations to ponder in the year ahead." The Union-Tribune reported last week that Merriman might have fired Tom Condon because the agent's high contract demands contributed to the failure of three draft-weekend trade attempts.

Browns general manager Tom Heckert said Monday that the team has no plans to trade linebacker Matt Roth. Heckert said "it's not going to happen." Matt Roth has asked the Browns to trade him. Roth, a restricted free-agent pass rusher, had four sacks last season. The two sides are not close on a multiyear contract extension. Roth is saying he will not sign his tender, so there is a standoff in Cleveland, which is why the trade was requested.

It was believed that a switch in agents would facilitate a trade sending Shawne Merriman out of San Diego, but nothing appears imminent. Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post writes that perhaps Merriman is to blame as "he is not the same player he once was and hasn't come back to the same level since his knee injury in 2008."

The Jets are reportedly trying to trade 32-year-old defensive end Shaun Ellis, their longest-tenured player. Ellis asked for and was denied a contract extension. "I don't know," Ellis told the Associated Press when asked about his future in New York. "I think so. Well, I hope so. You never know what they're thinking up there. You've just got to roll with it. We try to control our own fate, but we really can't." NJ.com reported Friday that the team has been trying to trade Ellis, but "have not found any takers, according to a person familiar with the situation."
